Fixing Social Security is responsibility of Congress

In response to Steven Schmitt's letter to the editor printed Jan. 24:

It is not President Obama's responsibility to fix Social Security. Nor was it George W. Bush's or Bill Clinton's. It is the responsibility of the Congress to pass legislation for the president to sign or veto.

Lay blame where it belongs -- at the feet of Congress who couldn't agree that they need an extinguisher if their desk caught fire. Social Security is most definitely NOT an easy fix. It is a very complex system that effects millions of Americans. When you have legislators whose primary drive is to get re-elected, it's not likely that they will act in any interest other than their own.
