I never had the privilege of meeting Greg Sellnow in person, or the opportunity to get to know him, but I would like to think that he was the kind of guy I could meet for a cold one after work on a Friday afternoon.
I knew him most from his column and appearances on KTTC. I say "most" because he shared a lot in print. I got to know his family, as much as I got to know where he stood on things and what he thought.
I think that's what I'll miss most: his informed opinion. In our digital age, there really isn't an opportunity to slow down and absorb and process what is going on around us in the community, the state, the country or the world. More often than I'd like to admit, I form an uninformed opinion. To paraphrase Mr. Lincoln, I tend to remove all doubt when I share what I think.
I believe what we will all miss most is Greg Sellnow's uncommon common sense. My prayers are for his family, friends and co-workers — all of us who will miss him as much tomorrow as we do today. Rest well, sir.
