Highlights from Biz After Hours EXTRA 2010

Despite the drizzly weather and a Rob Zombie concert, a good-sized crowd turned out for the 2010 Business After Hours Extra expo. The festivities took place at the Rochester International Events Center Tuesday.

Besides the spread rolled out by Chef Nick Lensing, many booths offered treats like rhubarb sauce and ice cream served up by Teresa and Autumn Penz of the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center and Bridgeman's Ice Cream dished up by Heather Tlougan and her crew at Dish It Up Diner. Doubletree Hotel chocolate cookies were in abundance.

Masked and caped wrestlers defending the honor of Textile Care Services circled the hall along with glamorous 1920s Hollywood flappers and Mantorville citizens in 1850s garb.

Golf, tee-ball and the ever popular ring toss kept sports enthusiasts occupied at many booths, while the University of Minnesota Rochester took suggestions for its future mascot. My idea is to follow in the footsteps of Wake Forest College with a Med City twist - the Demon Doctors, Well...maybe not.

And lots of big ideas were bandied around during the think tank sessions that followed the expo in the nearby 331 Bar and Grill with Jan Daley, the heart and soul of the proposed Rosie Belle Performing Arts Center, leading the discussion.
