HS football picks: Prep Bowl
PHERSY:Well, it's actually Feldy's week to put the picks up and my week to pick first. But he forgot to do it before he left for North Dakota, so I'm taking over for him. Feldy trails by two games, which means he'll have to pick both games opposite ... and since I'm going with both of our local squads, that means Feldy will be giving both Caledonia and Houston a "kick in the pants" as one former commenter once stated! Here's the final week ... I'll be happy to accept another Faceoff Football Picks crown!
Caledonia (12-1) vs Luverne (12-1)
Houston (13-0) vs. Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (13-0)
PHERSY:Here we go for the crown ...
Caledonia 27, Luverne 21:There might not be hotter team in the state than Caledonia. I didn't know how this team would do this year ... I think we all knew they'd be good, but I didn't think they'd be Prep Bowl good. They've proved a lot of people wrong, and it's tough to doubt coach Fruechte and his boys right now. Luverne is a solid squad, and they have plenty of kids who have played in big games before. But Caledonia won't be stopped!
Houston 30, C-G-B 16:I don't think this game will be a shoot-out like most Nine-man games on turf. But how can you doubt Kevin Lindh, Andy Sires and the boys. The line in front of those guys is playing darn well right now, too. So it's tough to imagine the Hurricanes losing this game!
FELDY: Since I don't have much choice, time to "kick our area teams in the pants: ...
CLASS AA/ Luverne 31, Caledonia 30: Luverne has lost in the Prep Bowl two years in a row, inlcuding to Caledonia last year. It's their time, but it won't be easy and they're going to have to find a way to out-score a high-powered, fast Warriors squad.
NINE-MAN/ C-G-B 18, Houston 16: Nobody's going to beat Houston in a shootout, so C-G-B's only shot is to focus on defense and halt the Hurricanes powerful offense.
