When Chief Justice Lorie Gildea was in Rochester last Friday, she asked that the new DFL governor's budget would "hold harmless" the judicial branch, which already is barely able to provide quick, effective justice because of inadequate funding.

Here's a statement from her office tonight:

"Today Governor Dayton recognized the constitutional priority of the Judicial Branch by recommending funding for FY12-13 that holds the Judicial Branch harmless from further cuts.  I call on the Legislature to do likewise.  Justice is not optional in Minnesota; it is an obligation."
