Kaehler shows courage on frac sand
Winona County Commissioner Mena Kaehler deserves your vote in November. Her support of the county zoning ordinance helps protect our county’s natural resources, beauty and economic values.
The ordinance is fair; contrary to rumors held by her opponent, you do not need to own 40 acres to build in the county — a conditional use permit can be granted at one acre.
Additionally, non-conformity language is in all zoning ordinances. Mena’s support for completion of an Environmental Assessment Worksheet for a proposed frac sand mine tells us she wants to do things correctly, and has the courage to take a stand. Mena supports this year’s reduced tax levy and reduced operating deficit. She farms and is the county board’s representative to the Winona Soil and Water Conservation District, of which I am District 3 supervisor, not running for re-election.
Mena’s monthly reports to the district cover local and state-level issues through her leadership role with the Association of Minnesota Counties. She helped the district solidify its budget, round out a superb staff, and promote interagency coordination in agricultural and conservation efforts across the county.
Vote to re-elect Commissioner Kaehler.
