Will President Obama and America take advantage of the latest savage execution by ISIS?
By burning a 26-year-old Jordanian hostage to death and posting the act on the Internet, a turning point in the Middle East has at last been reached. Sunni Muslims in Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have declared their outrage and sworn vengeance against the bloodthirsty and cowardly terrorist groups that create worldwide threats to security.
Proof of their resolve is provided by Jordan's swift execution of two convicted terrorists. Solid leadership from America is essential to turn the tide against ISIS and all the Islamic terrorist groups. But how does America lead the fight against such groups when our chief executive refuses to even call these groups what they are: Islamic terrorists?
Hearings to confirm Ashton Carter as our new secretary of defense are underway. He is the very best candidate that can presently be hoped for and will achieve speedy confirmation. This man has expertise and experience, and our president would do well to heed his advice.
Will Mr. Obama truly listen or repeat his pattern of ignoring advisers and kick the can down the road? Time will tell, but if America fails to capitalize and uses the usual rhetoric rather than actions, a golden opportunity will be lost.
