There's a somewhat quiet family group in our region that we would do well to notice and emulate. There was a brief story and picture tucked away in the sports section about the Powers family and the 135th Infantry deployment. Joe Powers was distributing gift grill meals to the families of the members being sent overseas.

Over the years I have been on the receiving end of a "Bunny cake," or other gesture from the Canadian Honker owners. They used to kindly remember the Emergency Room staff on busy nights. Likewise, they gave various gestures to veterans and veteran groups.

When it seems as though the days are dark because of disease, divisiveness, and generally dark news, it's good to know that there are genuine, generous folks around who contribute so much to the people who serve. It feels good.
