Editor's note: This letter was originally written in 2017 or 2018 but misplaced. The message still rings through.
I went to the Soldiers Field Memorial again the other day. I wanted to see where the new pavers were placed. Every time you leave that majestic memorial, you leave without a dry eye.
I met up with Wayne Stillman later that day at the American Legion. Several of us were talking about the memorial, wondering about the year it came about, etc. We asked Wayne. He said it started with a thought and a vision to him in 1995. Then in 1996, he formed a committee. By the year 2000, it became a reality.
Lately, Wayne and several others have been asking this community for a museum to honor veterans and first responders.
I would like to ask every citizen of Rochester and the surrounding community to walk the memorial that Wayne started as a thought and a vision and just think what that man could do for this community with building a museum.
If that memorial doesn't take your breath away I don't know what will!
