I and several others were disappointed in the city's Fourth of July program, commemorating the anniversary of our country’s independence.
I realize the pandemic may have limited activities that the city would liked to have done. However, not having one band playing Fourth of July patriotic songs such as "America the Beautiful," "You're a Grand Old Flag," etc., is inexcusable. The only American food served by the three concession stands was a hot dog. What happened to other traditional foods, like hamburger, potato salad, corn on the cob, etc.?
Lastly, the program was void of any mention of the real meaning of the Fourth of July.
Having the Fourth of July celebration program and fireworks at Soldiers Field is great. Let’s hope that next year's event can get back to a true traditional Fourth of July celebration.
