Minnesota Republicans to hold state convention in Rochester

The Republican Party of Minnesota announced this afternoon it will hold its 2014 State Convention in Rochester.

The convention will be May 30 and 31 at the Mayo Civic Center. Thousands of convention delegates will head to the city to vote on endorsements for governor, U.S. senator and state constitutional offices.

"We’re excited to bring Republican delegates together for the important work of endorsing our candidates in the host city of Rochester," Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Keith Downey said in a statement.

The Republican's convention in Rochester will be the same weekend as the Minnesota DFL's state convention in Duluth.

I ended up breaking the news to Olmsted County Republican Party Chairman Bruce Kaskubar that the convention would be in Rochester. He said he was a little surprised the party picked Rochester since they held a convention there in 2008 and the city is not centrally located, but he's pleased.

"I think it's great," he said.
