The unconfirmed word around town is that a new parking ramp (or garage as we used to call them in Indiana) will be going up near the Baldwin Building in downtown Rochester.

The Mayo Medical Center had 12,617 staff, resident, employee and student parking palces as of Oct. 2006.

I'm not certain yet if this is connected, but Mayo Clinic does mention building such a ramp in its five year plan.

Under the heading of "Central Medical Sub-District Construction Projects" the five year plan has an item marked C-203 "Provision for a combination Patient/Staff Parking Ramp south of baldwin, as well as demolition of College Apartments."

I don't know if this in the works or not, but Mayo Clinic's John Murphy is checking out as I type.

We'll see what he finds out.
