Move toward choosing options for peace can start with elections

Another election is upon us. We choose other people to represent us, but sometimes, voting along party lines puts career politicians into power. They often represent corporate "personhood" rather than the real people who pay taxes.

That's us folks. We are the real live entities who produce the real wealth of this country and send it to Washington, D.C., and St. Paul, plus various local taxes and sales taxes.

The penalties for refusing to pay federal taxes are sure sometimes severe. The Quakers believe that God forbids us to kill other people. One of the Ten Commandments states clearly: Thou shalt not kill.

Some Quakers refuse to pay federal taxes since well more than half goes to support our military operations. Some have lost their homes, savings and even family van needed for their work and young children. They have quit higher-paying jobs to bring their taxes down to zero.

God or Mammon, which will you choose to support? For myself, I first ask God for guidance. This time, I'll be voting Green, with only a few exceptions.
