Mysterious Holiday

Look for the Holiday Inn name to disappear from one place in Rochester and re-appear in another… area.

The franchise contract between Holiday Inn and the south Broadway hotel by the Olmsted County Fairgrounds ends this year.

Owner Mark Anderson is working on future plans.

Meanwhile, a plan to build a new Holiday Inn or other InterContinental Hotels Group brand hotel is "in the pipeline," says IHG’s Caroline Sanfilippo .

The Rochester intersection where it will be built — U.S. 52 and Second Street Southwest — is locked  in.

However, it is unknown which corner of that busy intersection it will be built.

The Shoppes on Second project is slated for the space by Miracle Mile. There is some open land across Second Street from that spot, though it would probably be too small.

Go across the highway and there are spots that look like they could be developed, if some buildings are removed.

However, the Shoppes on Second seems the most likely, but it is hard to know.

My pal Sanfilippo isn’t sure, though she does know  "… this is a franchised property. IHG … will not own it."

When will more be known?

"Perhaps you can check in again in a few months to see if an address has been assigned," she says.
