New parking system on First Avenue Southwest causes confusion

Rochester is experimenting with a new parking meter approach, which is confusing and inconvenient.

In the 400 block of First Avenue Southwest, the traditional meters have been replaced with a little sign and a number for each parking spot. The sign says something to the affect you need to go to the pay box, enter your parking space number and pay at this box, instead of plugging the old meter.

Another person and I stood there trying to figure it out and where this so-called box was located. Finally, a third person came along and said, "Oh, the box is half way down the street."

So instead of putting money in the meter where your car is parked, now, you have to walk a half block away to pay for parking. Don't forget the number on your parking, or you will have to go back to the car to get it.

Who thinks up these things?

The only thing I can think of is they are trying to make enforcement easier for the meter maids.

We certainly want to make easier for them to ticket our cars. However, I see it as inconvenient for the parking control people who now will have to travel back and forth.
