Prior to the end of each fiscal year, financially responsible people, organizations and governments plan for the next year. They estimate their income and expenses so that, if there is a deficit, they can decide how to deal with it.
Our federal government, in recent years, has not balanced its budget. Instead, it has continued to overspend and increase our national debt to the point where we could go bankrupt.
In January, I hoped our president and newly elected Congress would give their full and immediate attention to balancing our budget and paying down our national debt. I never thought they would be more interested in flexing their political muscle and seeing which party could be the most stubborn and bullheaded.
So far this year, President Barack Obama and Congress have shown me that, not only can they ignore our budget and national debt, but that, when it comes to stubbornness and bullheadedness, neither party is the winner.
Both can be equally stubborn and bullheaded when they want to be — and thus they accomplish nothing.
