P-B Dialogues: Media coverage of the flash floods

How well did the news media cover the flash floods that devastated Rushford and other area towns last month? Did the full extent of the disaster that struck those towns get out quickly enough, and how did media coverage affect the emergency response and political action in St. Paul?

That's the subject of our next Post-Bulletin Dialogues event, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Rochester Public Library auditorium. The free, informal gathering is a chance for journalists and community residents to talk about events and issues in the news.

I'll be joined by reporter Matt Russell and photographer Ken Klotzbach, Red Cross officials Melanie Tschida and Gary Peterson, and others involved in the flood relief efforts. Klotzbach will show his own photos and others taken by P-B photographers in the aftermath of the storm and floods that hit the area Aug. 18-19.

Information on how to help in the cleanup and rebuilding efforts will also be available.

I'll post more details on the event in advance -- we're hoping to add more people to the guest roster.
