Reauthorizing sales tax will benefit community

On Nov. 6, the citizens of Rochester will have the opportunity to reauthorize the legislatively approved half-cent local-option sales tax. This significant benefit has been in place in our community since the flood control project of 1983.

Projects that will be funded through the reauthorization include providing for economic development, county road infrastructure, supporting and increasing opportunities in higher education and growth in the health care support industry.  In addition, communities surrounding Rochester will also receive population-based financial benefits from the half-cent sales tax for projects in their specific communities.

The Rochester Area Foundation supports the reauthorization of the half-cent local sales tax in the interests of continuing to grow, enhance and provide for the quality of life we all wish to enjoy in the greater Rochester area.
