Lane closures coming up on U.S. 52 at Goodhue County Road 9:
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists will encounter single-lane traffic in both directions on Highway 52 south of Cannon Falls as construction on an intersection moves forward, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The lane closures are scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 24 for the work on the Highway 52 quadrant interchange construction south of Cannon Falls at Goodhue County Road 9.
The lanes closures are expected to take approximately six weeks and will switch sides on both the northbound and southbound roadways during the process. It also means the median will be closed permanently at County Road 9. Motorists will still have access to County Road 9, but not through access at Highway 52. Signs will direct motorists. Later in the project, motorists will follow a detour to use County Road 9.
The general contractor for this $6.72 million construction project is Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye, Minn. The project is expected to be finished in November. The project is

Also during this stage of construction, the signs known as known as CICAS-SSA (Cooperative Intersection Collision Avoidance Systems – Stop Sign Assist)are being turned off and taken down. They were placed at this intersection in 2010 as part of a long-term research project to improve safety at rural intersections. Data was compiled through the end of 2013. The data collected allowed researchers at the University of Minnesota to develop warning algorithms that are now being used for other intersection warning systems such as the Rural Intersection Collision Warning System developed by MnDOT. These are currently being deployed across the state.
