Former Senate Republican Communications Director Michael Brodkorb wrote Friday on his blog Politics.mn that there is growing buzz about a possible run by Rochester GOP Sen. Dave Senjem for the 1st Congressional District seat.
He states the he called Senjem and the senator did not rule out a congressional bid agaist DFL Congressman Tim Walz. I reached out to Senjem today to talk about the prospects of a congressional run He was in the middle of replacing the blower motor in his pickup truck. At this point, Senjem said he doesn't know where the buzz is coming from.
"I can only speculate that Washington is vetting me. I am a very appreciative state senator and have not been approached to make, or personally contempleted, a congressional run," he said.
So far, Rochester GOP Rep. Mike Benson has announced he is running for the seat and Sen. Carla Nelson is giving serious consideration to a possible bid. Blue Earth businessman Jim Hagedorn and Byron Army veteran Aaron Miller are also seeking the party's endorsement.
