Deb Towey's Nov. 5 letter indicated Randy Demmer ran an honorable campaign. I disagree. Mr Demmer used many thousands of dollars in advertising from groups such as the Faith and Freedom Coalition.
Of course, he has the plausability that his campaign didn't run those ads but he was aware of
the ads and did not denounce them. One such ad shows a dark Halloween scene with Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and President Obama's pictures on it and a headline, "Scared Yet?." Mr. Demmer was not running on his own views. There is nothing about Mr Demmer's views on this piece of literature. It says, "Tim Walz: Like Obama ... Only Worse."
Is this running on the issues or viewpoints? Or is this running on scare tactics? In another ad, Mr Demmer says, "It's the kind of honor and trust Tim Walz does not understand," referring to Mr. Walz supposedly abandoning a commitment to Social Security and Medicare. Mr Walz never indicated he does not intend to support those programs.
Each candidate should promote their own viewpoints and not what they think their opponents believe or what will scare voters. I will take your word for it that Mr. Demmer attempted to run an honorable campaign. Take my word that Mr Walz attempted to do so also.
