'Tim McVeigh wannabes' comment inexcusable

A recent airing of Sean Hannity's show on Fox News at the Reagan Presidential Library made headlines on the cable news shows. The video is viral all over the Internet. That is where I saw it.

Before a live audience discussing how the Tea Party movement won the debate over health care, Sean Hannity made the comparison of that movement to the actions of Timothy McVeigh, calling "the people of the Tea Party 'Tim McVeigh wannabes.'" The audience applauded.

Did Sean Hannity forget what Timothy McVeigh did on April 19, 1995? Had he ever toured that hallowed site for himself? How could he forget those images plastered all over the TV and publications?

Having toured the Oklahoma City Memorial last May, I saw all 169 chairs of the names of the people who died by McVeigh's hands, saw the mementos left behind, and toured the museum. I left the site humbled.

To question one's government as the Tea Party has done is one thing. To compare them to Timothy McVeigh is another. Sean Hannity is WRONG on this one! For Timothy McVeigh was a homegrown terrorist with strong anti-government sentiments that ended in death and destruction. Sean Hannity owes an apology to the families whose loved ones died by McVeigh's hands.
