U.S. 14 requires action, not just some tips on safe driving

Thank you for providing a chuckle with your editorial in the Nov. 14 edition. The fact is that this paper, area elected officials and MnDOT couldn't care less about upgrading U.S. 14 — the Highway of Death. This paper and others would rather support improvements on the Civic Center, road exchanges in Pine Island that will rarely be used or putting in a round-about in some obscure location in Rochester.

Having another fatality requires you to pull out the same old recycled talking points about what a tragic event this is, and gosh, we should do something about U.S. 14, blah, blah, blah.

I really enjoyed your solution to the Highway of Death — drive safe and check your fluid levels. My guess is when the next person gets killed, if it is near the summer months, you will encourage us to check our wipers and use sunscreen.

Get a clue. Highway 14 is an inadequate road that will kill more people. Spare us your sadness and driving tips and use some of your energy and influence in getting something done!  As a frequent traveler of the road, I look forward to reading your expression of sadness and gosh-let’s-do-something editorial when the next tragedy takes place on the Highway of Death!
