Wait for federal rail money before spending local dollars

I find it interesting that the supporters of the City Sales Tax talk about investing in the future but fail to acknowledge that funding for the high speed rail provided for by the federal government is non-existing.

They want to spend $16 million of the city sales tax disguised as "transportation" for our share of the project, while the government has no money set aside for the project and none planned. Shouldn't we wait for federal dollars in the tune of $2 billion to be made available before we spend our money?

By the way, Olmsted County approved spending the grant money on Oct. 25 for freight rail, not high speed rail — or should I say "wink, wink" on that one.
