We should have a choice of cable television companies

In the 1980s, the federal government passed a law that big business couldn't have a monopoly on some things, and "Ma Bell" was one of the businesses affected by that.

My question is why Charter Cable has been the "only show in town" for years and years. If you live in Rochester and prefer cable service, you are at their mercy. Even the small towns around us have a choice of two cable companies, but not Rochester.

Last year, Rochester City Lines had to go out on bids. I'm wondering if Charter Cable goes through the same thing. When I talk to people about this, they claim the reason we keep Charter is they give the city a good commission for letting them be here. I hope that's not true, as it would be given at the expense of the citizens of Rochester.

One of our representatives in St. Paul said that the people of Rochester should contact the city council and asked them to look into the matter and do what is best for the people of Rochester.

So I'm asking the city council to address this situation and explain why it has been like this for so long.
