"Bipartisan" isn't a word we associate with politics in the current polarized atmosphere. However, there were significant bills passed in the state Legislature during the recent session, 80 percent of which had bipartisan support.
Specifically, Andy Welti and our other local representatives and senators established the Collaborative Governance Council, which identifies obstacles to collaboration across different governing bodies and brings about their removal. The council includes members from local governments, unions, schools, the Legislature and the State Auditor's Officers.
We all are best served when there is a spirit of cooperation among our elected officials. There are significant problems that need addressing. This bipartisan effort should serve as a model for future discussions.
