A man had threatened to shoot family members the evening of Aug. 1, then barricaded himself in his home. He finally exited his home at approximately 9:45 p.m. Aug. 2 and was taken into custody.
Meeker County Jail staff attempted life-saving measures after finding a 28-year-old man unresponsive in his cell Thursday, the sheriff reported in a news release. The man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. There is no evidence of foul play at this time, according to Sheriff Brian Cruze.
Two more commercial turkey flocks — in Blue Earth and Meeker counties — were added to the growing list of confirmed avian flu sites in Minnesota as of Friday's noon update, bringing the statewide total to 40 sites and 1,939,067 birds affected.
The inventory of flocks in Minnesota diagnosed with H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza is 1,017,568 as of Wednesday, according to the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. Six additional infection sites were announced Wednesday after being diagnosed April 5.

Sergio Esquivel Torres, 34, died after suffering injuries when a boom from a concrete truck fell. Jaun Bocardo Ibanez, 20, of Litchfield, was also injured during Friday's incident and was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital for critical injuries. According to the Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruz, Ibanez has since been released from the hospital. The incident is under investigation.
