HOLMEN, Wis. — The Kasson-Mantorville High School Powerlifting Team traveled to Holmen High School on Saturday to compete in a meet with 200 lifters from Holmen, New Richmond, La Crosse Central, Adams-Friendship, Riverdale, G-E-T, Wisconsin Rapids, Independance, Colfax, Whitehall, Tomah, and Sparta.
Luke Seljeseth, a junior in the Heavyweight class, totaled 1,125 pounds and placed first. He beat the runnerup by over 100 pounds and improved his total by 120 pounds from last meet.
Payton Bendickson, a ninth-grader, dropped down to the 132 class, totaling 590 pounds and placing first. He also set PRs in all his lifts and was successful on all nine lifts.
K-M had five ninth-grade girls compete. Meghan Malisheske, 198 class, totaled 530 pounds, giving her first place. In the same class, Elise Salisbury totaled 405 pounds and took second.
In the 165 class, Ashley Hallstrom totaled 475 pounds, placing second. Taylor Goldschmidt moved down to the 132 class, totaled 370 pounds and took third. Anjelica Canales, 181 class, totaled 455 pounds, placing fourth.
K-M sent two youth lifters. Michael Edgar, seventh-grader in the 220 class, finished in fourth place with a total of 485 pounds and Madisyn Hairsine, and eighth-grader in the 123 class, totaled 365 for a fourth-place finish. They both improved their totals by 50 pounds.
K-M had three girls 10th-grade girls competing.
Daniela Villagrana, 198-plus class, totaled 720 pounds, placing first. She beat the second-place finisher by over 100 pounds.
Mackenzie Edgar, 165 class, totaled 560 pounds, giving her first place. Destine Farmer, 123 class, totaled 385 pounds, placing second.
“This was another great meet for us,” K-M coach Cori Ronnenberg said. “All placed in the top five of their divisions and most set new PRs in their lifts.”
The team will compete at the Minnesota HS State Meet on Feb. 10 at Rockford High School.
