MAUSTON, Wis. — Five Kasson-Mantorville High School Powerlifting Team members took firsts in the team’s first meet of the season, Saturday at Mauston High School.  The meet had 200 lifters from 12 area schools.  

All 14 K-M lifters competed in the Raw Division.

Two youth lifters — Michael Edgar, a seventh-grader, in the 220 class (455 pounds) and Madisyn Hairsine, eighth-grader, 132 class (325 pounds) took first places.

Meghan Malisheske (ninth-grader, 198 class) totaled 490 pounds to take first place.

Daniela Villagrana (10th-grader, 198+ class) totaled 730 pounds, placing her first. She completed all nine lifts successfully  She also won the deadlift in all the 198+divisions with 340 pounds.  She beat the second place finisher by over 100 pounds, and her and Mackenzie Edgar are reaching National Qualifying totals by over 200 pounds.

Logan Holmes (ninth-grader, 132 class) totaled 560 pounds, placing him in first.

Ninth-grade girls

Taylor Goldschmidt, 148 class, 365 pounds, 8th; Ashley Hollstrom, 165 class, 445 pounds, 4th; Aljelica Canalis, 181 class, 440 pounds, 3rd

All reached National Qualifying totals in their divisions.  

Ninth-grade boys

Gabe Bungum, 114 class, 410 pounds, 3rd; Payton Bendickson, 148 class, 580 pounds,  5th.

10th-graders

Destine Farmer, 123 class, 370 pounds, 2nd; Mackenzie Edgar, 165 class, 560 pounds, 3rd.

Junior boys

Bailey Meyers, 148 class, 840 pounds, 2nd; Lucke Seljeseth, HWT class, 1085 pounds, deadlifted 500 pounds, but called on his depth for his 400 squat. Both reached National Qualifying totals.

“This was a great meet for us,” said coach Cori Ronnenberg. “Lots of new lifters trying to find their openers and maxes.  

“We got to compete against a lot of good lifters from Wisconsin that will be in the Nationals Meet.”
