Rochester Community and Technical College used a balanced attack as it opened the 2019-20 season with an 88-75 win over Bay College in junior college men's basketball on Friday night.
The host Yellowjackets had five player score in double figures. They scored 44 points in each half and led 44-32 at the break.
"It was a sloppy game as probably expected but there were some positives and clearly some major things to address and improve on going forward," RCTC coach Brian LaPlante said.
Kong Kong of Mankato paced RCTC with 17 points, Rochester's Ray Adams and Mickey Jah scored 13 each, Devin Melzer had 12 and Jerome Cunningham added 11.
Adams, a John Marshall grad, also had six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kong also had six rebounds and Cunningham added four.
The Yellowjackets shot 57 percent from the field (31-for-54) and Bay, a Division II scholarship school, shot just 41.5 percent (22-for-53). Bay was also playing its third game of the season.
"So at times we were very efficient," LaPlante said.
RCTC (1-0) will face another D-II JUCO team when it hosts Dakota County Technical College at 7 p.m. on Nov. 19.
