Richard "Dick" Wendt, 72, of Rochester, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at his home.
Dick was born, June 25, 1939, in Decorah, Iowa, to Reuben and Dorothy Wendt. He was raised on the family farm north of Preston. He attended and graduated from Preston High School in 1957. In 1958, he went in the Naval Air Force, spending time in the Mediterranean with the 6th Fleet in Barcelona, Spain. After leaving the Navy he married Diane Hongerholt on Dec. 1, 1962, in Highland, and they moved to the Rochester area. He worked for Marigold Foods for 40 years.
Dick enjoyed bowling, spending time with his grandchildren and was a member of the Stewartville American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; two children, Mike (Carol) of Kasson and Kevin (Giesela) of Rochester; three grandchildren, Lucas, Zachary and Annie; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric; two brothers, John (Ruth) Wendt of Fountain and Steve Wendt of Minneapolis; and two sisters, Susan Turk of Witchita Falls, Texas, and Linda (Douglas) Wilson of Lodi, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

A funeral service will held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 111 2nd Ave., in Stewartville, with the Reverend Lyle Fritsch officiating. Burial will be at Big Springs Cemetery in Harmony, with Military Honors later in the afternoon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
