Russell Roland Bybee, 84, of Rochester, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at his residence.

Born Oct. 11, 1927, in Mapleton, to Asa and Bertha (King) Bybee. Russell served in the United States Army, 1954-1956, where he was a crane shovel operator.

He was a member of the American Legion, loved to garden and build outdoor crafts and yard ornaments. He was an avid fan of Nascar racing and enjoyed country music and watching the old western movies and hunting.

He married Margie Jean Todd and they later divorced. He lived several years in the Hayfield area before moving into Rochester. He farmed with his brother near Hayfield, his last employment was a taxi cab driver in Rochester.

Surviving are two daughters, Elsie Behnken (Wayne) of Kingman, Ariz., and Roni Strain (Kyle) of Hayfield; and a son, Russ Bybee Jr. of Willow, Alaska; also surviving are four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; as well as his sister, Isabelle Haase of Clearbrook. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
