Sherman G. Golberg - Byron
Sherman G. Golberg, age 88, of Byron, passed away peacefully Tuesday (Aug. 2, 2011) at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester.
Sherman was born on Sept. 18, 1922, to Arthur and Clara Golberg. He married Virginia Ayshford on Jan. 26, 1945, and they were married for 54 years. They lived in Salem Township and farmed all their married life. Virginia passed away May 7, 1999.
In September 2001, Sherman moved off the farm and made his home in Byron. He has resided at Samaritan Bethany nursing home for the past year.
Sherman first and foremost was a farmer, but also was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Quarve & Anderson Co. He served on the Salem Town Board for 20 years. He was a life member of the Lady Slipper Model A Ford Club, a life member of the Round Table Historical Club, and a life member of the Root River Historical Club. He enjoyed restoring old tractors and cars, and especially loved his John Deere tractors. He has been a member of East St. Olaf Church his entire life.
Sherman is survived and deeply loved by his son, Dennis (Linda) Golberg of Rochester; his only grandchild, Melissa Golberg of Mendota Heights; his sisters, Alpha (Norval) Howe of Lakeville and Mavis Sturak of Auburn, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
Sherman was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; his parents; one brother, Bobby; one sister, Blanche; and niece, Sue Ann Nereson.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday (Aug. 5, 2011) at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell, with Pastor Darby Lawrence officiating. Visitation for friends and family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in East St. Olaf Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to East St. Olaf Church.
