MAYO GIRLS
Head coach: Gary Tschann, third year. Assistant coaches:Nikki Anglen, Abbey Karth. 2011 record:2-11.
Season outlook:Team strengths are intelligence and athleticism, Tschann says. Rebecca Graham returns in goal and he looks for strong midfield play led by seniors Lauren Ulsh, Ella Cameron and Sugan Hamud. "At attack with returning starters Myra Franzone and Jamie Poethke running our offense I hope to increase our goal scoring," he adds. Sam Carlson is a returning starter on defense, making that the area of concern for the first part of the season.
Coach's quote:"We have record numbers this year with 45 players, but over half of them have little or no lacrosse experience. I expect us to learn what it takes to win early in the season and have a strong second half."

CENTURY GIRLS
Head coach: Scott Swenson, second year. Assistant coach:Jessica Kiner. 2011 record:2-14.
Season outlook:Swenson indicates that there is a good level of talent on the team and there is "constant competition for varsity playing time," so some less-experienced players might emerge. Those returning after making strong contributions include the three senior captains Jessica Faunce, Kaylie LaPlante and Taylor Czaplewski; junior Rebecca Lorsung, sophomores Katie Aney and Nicole Philipps; and freshmen Abby Cunningham, McKenna Bridges and Rachael Christenson. Of that group, Faunce and Czaplewski play defense; LaPlante, Philipps, Aney, Christenson and Bridges are midfielders; Cunningham is a goalie; and Lorsung is a forward.

Coach's quote:"Down about 10 players from last year's tea(M), an outsider might think that the Century team is in trouble. But that's not the case at all. Extremely talented players come from all grade levels, and many have spent their off seasons either improving their skills specifically or playing another sport that can't help but be beneficial to them on the lacrosse field as well."

MAYO BOYS
Head coach: Tom Patterson, first year. Assistant coaches:Abe Allen, Marcus Nigbur, Steve Patterson. 2011 record: 8-6.
Season outloook: Grant Flick has been starting goalie for three years and Mike Patterson has played on varsity since eighth grade. They are the team's two senior captains. "These two do everything for our team on and off the field," coach Patterson says. Two twin brothers, MIchael and Nick Fix, are the other returning starters, although MIchael is switching from midfield to attack. Nick plays defense. "We expect big things from these two as well as our faceoff personnel, Jacob Orvidas and Matt Moore," coach Patterson adds.
Coach's comment:"A combined Mayo/Century winter league team dominated all of the Twin Cities competition in our division. The Mayo/Century team suffered only one loss to an all-star team on a Saturday when several of our first-line players were participating in their primary sport (basketball or hockey) or taking the ACT. The Mayo/Century team went on to win the league championship by having the best record overall, suffering only this one loss."
