CENTURY PANTHERS
Head coach: Kris Allen (16th season).
Assistant coaches:Scott Klote (throws), Janet Topazian (hurdles), Ray Ashworth (pole vault), Joey Keillor (distance), Marykate Bonadurer (distance), Jeff Schlichter (jumps), Steve Burrill (sprints) and volunteer, Tim Arndt (sprints).
Last year:Big Nine, first (232 points; Section 1AA, fourth (56 points). State qualifiers: Jenny Guibert (800); 3200 relay (Kendall Leet-Otley, Lucia Burgess, Stephanie Murray, Jenny Guibert; Andrianna Jacobs (pole vault).
Outlook:Positive, despite losing several key letterwinners, including Jenny Guibert, Shannon Brakke and Kendall Leet-Otley. The program is solid, as evidenced with back-to-back Big Nine championships. And it's always nice to have back a record-breaking state champion, and that would be Andrianna Jacobs, who won the Class AA state title last spring in a record 13-feet. She's only a sophomore. Another key returnee is Emma Allen, who missed last year with a torn hamstring. Others expected to contribute include Mishy Wang, Karli Fink, Michaela Pfeiffer, Audrey Webster, Sierra Paske and Kendall Kupfer.

Coach's quote:We have big expectations from our youngsters, having 50 kids in ninth grade or younger. Our strength will be in our depth and numbers, but it's always hard to replace lost seniors. We will do our best to retain our conference title. — Kris Allen.

Assistant coaches: Corey Dingles (sprints and jumps), Maria Wilkes (pole vault), Mike Sonnabend (sprints, high jump), Colette Diedrich (distance), Mark Peterson (long, triple jump), Kali Mahoney (throws), Tom Passe (throws, boys coordinator). Davick (high jump), Allen (hurdles).

Last year:Big Nine, sixth (92 points); Section 1AA, 10th (27 points). State qualifier: Tori Thompson (long jump).
Letterwinners lost:Twelve.
Returning letterwinners:Emma Christensen, Hannah Degener, Grace Dokken, Nicole Fautsch, Jenna Milligan, Prabjot Singh, Tori Thompson, Kate Vinski, Kierra Walske, Maddie Woodford, Trichel Zinchel.
Outlook:Optimistic. The Rockets will be solid in the distances, led by Emma Christensen, who went to state last fall in cross country. She was fifth in the Big Nine last year and sixth at section in the 1600 and second in the Big Nine in the 3200 and sixth at section. Jenna Milligan is the top mid-distance runner returning; she was second in the conference last year in the 800. Nicole Fautsch will get points in the shot put and discus — she was fourth in the Big Nine in the shot and fifth at section and third in the discus at the Big Nine and fourth at section. Where do you put Tori Thompson, who will try the triple jump this year? She made it to the state in the long jump and won that event at both the Big Nine and Section 1AA. Thompson is also a solid discus thrower and the team's best high jumper. And she also runs the 200. Milkela Janisch was the top pole vaulter but is out due to knee surgery. Prabhjot Singh has potential in the pole vault. Top hurdlers are Maddie Woodford, Sarah Taraba and Haley Mills. Sprinters include Kate Vinski, Kienna Green, Trichel Zenke, Grace Dokken, Zainab Mustapha, Kenyatte Kruetzfeldt and Megan Paul.
Coach's quote:One goal is to improve over last year's conference finish and eighth place at the section into the middle of the pack. Also, we would like to get five athletes to qualify for the state meet. — Pam Davick.

Coach: James Bolin (fourth year).
Assistant coaches:Rob Mitchell, Abe Dockter.
Last year:Qualified the 3200 relay team for state, the first state entrant in school history. They were timed in 9:57.
Outlook:On the upswing. Letterwinners back include Ruth Johnson, Julia Furst, Kate Beech, Katie Eidem, Kristen Peterson, Kaitlin Fry, Molly Doda and Rose Doda. Three members of the 3200 relay team return. The other member of the team — Elsa Paradis — transferred to Century. Another transfer lost is Jens Ackerman. Top performers will be Rose Doda (800), Kristen Peterson (1600) and Katie Eidem (200, 400, 800). Eidem finished fourth in the Section 1A 400 as an eighth grader while Peterson qualified for the section finals in the 1600. Both were members of the 3200 relay. The team strength will be distance running. There is only one senior.

AUSTIN PACKERS
Head coach: Nancy Jones (starting her 14th year).
Assistant coaches:Lynn Gulbrandson (throws), Jennier Hillger (distance), Pete Walker (pole vault), Jeremy Wilson (horizontal jumps).
Last year:Big Nine, seventh (96 points); Section 1AA, seventh (33 points); State qualifiers: Carolyn Hackel (100, 200) and Abby Snater (pole vault).
Letterwinners lost:Twelve, MaKenzie Besel (distance), Carley Grunewald (sprints), Helen Heimark (distance), Emily Jensen (throws), Nicole Lipari (sprints, long jump), Sam Maloney (sprints), Emily McAlister (sprints), Lindsey McAlister (throws), Taylor Miland (throws), Karyn Potach (middle distance), Abby Snater (pole vault, high jump, triple jump), Haley Splinter (sprints, middle distance).
Returning letterwinners:Carolyn Hackel (sprints), Kendall Hackensmith (hurdles), Haley Tigner (sprints), Madison Overby (distance), Paiton Schwab (distance), Rachel Quandt (pole vault, hurdles, high jump), Paige Raymond (hurdles), Ochudo Cham (distance)
Outlook:Young. There are only three seniors, and only two of them were out last season. Two big losses were Abby Snater and Haley Splinter. The strength will be in the distance events; the Packers won the Big Nine cross country championship last fall behind Madison Overby and Paiton Schwab. Strong group of hurdlers include Rachel Quandt, Kendall Hackensmith and Paige Raymond. The throwers are young — sophomores and under — but they are showing promise. Sprint areas lack depth but Carolyn Hackel is back and is one of the best sprinters in the state. Hackel will also compete as a long jumper. Quandt also is a pole vaulter and Hackensmith a high jumper. Amber Hansen, a freshman, threw over 30 feet in the shot put last year. She is also a hurdler.
Coach's quote:Girls enthusiastic and fun to work with. We will be hosting Big Nine Conference meet this year and hoping to have a good showing at our home track. — Nancy Jones.
