CENTURY PANTHERS
Head coach: Joey Keillor. Assistants: Bobby Miller, Melissa Gudmundson, Gary Lovelace.
Season outlook: The Panthers, coming off a fifth-place finish at last year's Section 1AA meet, will be captained this season by seniors Mathea Brink, Kyra Miller and Meagan Peterson. They'll be joined by top returning runner, sophomore Aly Welch, who finished sixth in the Section 1AA meet and 44th at the Class AA state meet as a freshman last fall. Kaitlin Miller and Martha Burket are other runners expected to push for varsity spots in a group that coach Keillor said goes 10-12 deep.
Coach says: "Our goal is to be competitive with the top teams in the section, to qualify for the state meet as a team, and then to be competitive at state. This would include beating super talented and competitive teams such as the Lakevilles, Austin, Red Wing and others. The odds of this happening aren't high. However, we will never go into a season thinking it can't be done. It can be done. And our top runners will train at a level commensurate with that goal."

JOHN MARSHALL ROCKETS
Head coach: Pam Davick. Assistant: Rebekah Frei.
Season outlook: The Rockets have six of their seven runners back from the team that finished 13th in the Section 1AA meet last season. That group is led by one of the top runners in the section and the state, senior Emma Christensen (Section 1AA runner-up, 15th at Class AA state meet).
"Emma is the most disciplined high school athlete that I have had the pleasure of working with," coach Davick said. "Her work ethic, attention to detail and willingness to follow a program which allows her to maximize her talents are second to none. Additionally, Emma is a good person and great role model. At the end of race which she may have won, she often is the one helping a fellow competitor to recover. Emma willingly spends time with our younger athletes. We are looking for a fantastic year from year."
Other top runners back from last season include Abby Frei, Megan McDevitt, Paige Day, Ally Halverson and Olivia Haddock.

Coach says: "Our overall team goal is to improve on our 12th-place finish at the Big Nine meet. Of the 41 athletes on this year's team, 21 of them are new to the program. We have some definite talent in this group of inexperienced runners."

LOURDES EAGLES
ADVERTISEMENT
Head coach: Katie Stinson.
Season outlook: The Eagles have five runners back from last year's team that finished as the runner-up in Section 1A and placed 12th at the Class A state meet. "These girls enjoy pack running which makes them a fun team to watch," coach Stinson said.
Team captains Lizzy Bauer, a senior, and Erin Leary, a junior, are among that top group of returners. Bauer will be among the team's top leaders and Leary excelled in her first season out for cross country after playing soccer previously. Anna Braun, Lauryn Renier and Margaret Degen are also expected to fill big roles on the varsity.
Coach says: "We have a very young team on the girls side and almost the complete opposite on the boys side. It's an extremely interesting dynamic to be coaching this year. In talking with our team members about goals for the season, it's clear that continuous improvement and growing stronger as a team are our priorities."

MAYO SPARTANS
Head coach: Brett Carroll. Assistants: Sarah Osberg, Jane Brandt.
Season outlook: Sophomore Savannah Vold is back to lead a team that placed 11th in the Section 1AA meet last fall. Vold ran well as a freshman, finishing 17th in the section, Mayo's top finisher at the meet. Including Vold, Mayo has its top six runners back from the end of last season. The other top returners include senior Grace Perrone, sophomore Kendall Pfrimmer, freshman Courtney Grandbois, junior Brooke Haskins and freshman Sophie Truesdale.
Coach says: "Savannah Vold is Ms. Consisent and has been for the past three years in the Spartan distance program. She will have some welcome company this year with the huge improvement of fellow sophomore Kendall Pfrimmer. They are attached at the hip and train together and push each other to do their best. The team will be improved from last year and have about eleven girls that I could see filing in the other five spots on the team throughout the season."

ROCHESTER AREA HOME SCHOOL
Head coach: Wayne Dickie.
Season outlook: The Jaguars' program continues to grow and improve. For the first time, a former RAHS runner is competing at the college level, as Ruth Lindberg, the team's No. 1 runner last season, is competing at Concordia. Newcomers Kara Lindberg, Maddie Perry and Grace Castleberg are all new to the team, but are expected to be three of the Jaguars' top runners.
Coach says: "We will need some others to step up and fill in the gaps. If we can do this, our girls' team will be the best it has been since we began five years ago. Everyone is working hard, having fun and we are excited for the opportunity to compete against the quality cross country programs in our area."
