2021-22 WINTER MSHSL TOURNAMENTS

The boys basketball state tournament pairings for Class A, AA, AAA and AAAA.
Hayfield was ranked No. 1 in the state in Class AA all season, and the Vikings delivered a state title by nipping Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 51-49 in the championship game.

QUARTERFINALS
Austin turned in a strong performance and beat Detroit Lakes in the consolation championship of the state girls basketball tournament.
Hayfield standouts Kristen Watson and Aine Stasko both were hit hard by foul touble, and Hayfield was beaten badly on the boards as it lost to Minneota in the Class A state girls basketball tournament semifinals.

Saturday was another successful day at Xcel Energy Center for a bunch of southeastern Minnesota wrestlers.
The Chatfield senior trailed 6-1 in the second period before recording a pin to capture his first state wrestling championship.
The junior didn't miss his second chance at Royalton/Upsala's Jacob Leibold.

Sixteen teams will converge on St. Paul and the Xcel Energy Center this week for the Minnesota high school boys hockey state tournament. Here's a look at all 16 teams and some of the players to watch this week.
Josh Storm narrowly missed out on the opportunity to play in a state tournament during his high school days. Thursday, he helped guide Lakeville South to its fourth consecutive Section 1AA boys hockey hockey championship and a spot in next week's Class AA state tournament.
New Prague let a two-goal lead slip away, but it rallied and scored the final three goals in beating Albert Lea in the Section 1A boys hockey championship game on Wednesday at the Rochester Recreation Center.

Gymnastics
Section Tournament: Feb. 10, 12
State Tournament: Feb. 18, 19
Byron junior Amber Roble managed an eighth-place finish on the balance beam as she competed in the Class A state gymnastics meet.
The Bears finished with their second highest score of the season (137.725). Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka defended their Class A title by just edging Mankato West.
Roble finished second on the beam at last year's Class A state meet as the only Byron competitor. But she won't be alone this year after helping the Bears punch the program's first ticket to state since 1991 with a Section 1A title on Feb. 12.

State Tournament: Feb. 23, 24, 25, 26
Albert Lea was within a goal of a trip to the girls hockey state tournament last year. Thursday, the Tigers eased those memories by capturing the Section 1A title and a trip to state.
Austin and Albert Lea will meet for the Section 1A girls hockey championship, while Lakeville South and Northfield will play for the Section 1AA title.
Top seeds overwhelm Mayo, Century/JM in opening round of girls hockey playoffs.

The John Marshall girls Alpine Ski team had a strong finish in the 18-team Section 6 meet, but did not qualify for state.
The Section 6 Alpine Ski meet is Tuesday at Buck Hill in Burnsville. Section 6 is considered the top section in the state.
