Adapted softball | Gerdt powers Raiders to win

Calvin Gerdt went 5-for-5 and led the Rochester Raiders adapted softball team to a 12-2 win over South Suburban on Monday.

Thirteen Raiders got got hits, and JM's August Williams had three hits including a two-run home run.

"I liked our aggressive approach at the plate tonight, we will look to remain consistent throughout the season," said Raiders coach Ryan Bacon. "We want each player's confidence to grow game by game."

• The Raiders opened their season with a second-place finish in a preseason tournament over the weekend in Robbinsdale.

The Raiders started with a 6-1 loss to Anoka-Hennepin last Friday. On Saturday the Raiders turned some heads with a 15-10 win over Robbinsdale, the five-time defending state champions.

Rochester finished the tournament with a 15-5 win over South Suburban.

The Raiders' next game is their home opener at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Friedell Middle School.
