Amateur Baseball: Greyhounds power past Hayfield

AUSTIN — Matt Raso went 3-for-5 with a home run as the Austin Greyhounds defeated Hayfield 11-5 in amateur baseball on Wednesday.

Three Austin pitchers combined to strike out 16 Hayfield hitters in the game. Aaron Klatt pitched the first three innings and struck out four while allowing one run. Weston Hanson followed with three innings to earn the win. He allowed two runs and struck out five. Zach Schara pitched the final three innings for the save. He allowed two runs and struck out seven.

Raso collected his first hit and scored the first of his three runs during a three-run Austin fourth inning. Alex Ciola hit an RBI single in the inning.

Schara hit an RBI single and Joe Ciola added a two-run single in a five-run fifth. Raso singled and scored in the inning and he hit a solo homer in the seventh.

Andy Swank went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored for the Greyhounds. Schara also had two hits.


Jake Krier went 2-for-3 with a triple and two-run single in the ninth for Hayfield.
