Amateur Baseball: Greyhounds take two from Royals

The Austin Greyhounds used timely hitting and solid pitching to earn a sweep of an amateur baseball doubleheader against the Rochester Royals at Mayo Field on Saturday.

The teams went to an extra inning to decide the opener.

Tyler Leopold's one-out single in the top of the eighth inning drove in Craig Braaten with the game-winning run in a 4-3 Greyhounds victory.

Buzz Hanahan's double in the bottom of the seventh brought home Tim Oesterlin to tie the score for the Royals at 3-3 and force extra innings. Hanahan and Brian Ness each had two hits in the game for Rochester.

Dave Adams led Austin in the first game, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Braaten and Nate Johnson had two hits each.

Austin took control of the second game with a five-run third inning and went on to a 7-3 victory.

Matt Raso, who went 3-for-4 in the game, delivered the big blow in the inning. He hit a bases-loaded double that brought home three runs and capped the Greyhounds scoring in the inning.

Adams was 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Hounds, while Nate Johnson had two hits and two runs scored.

Drew Block had two RBIs for Rochester, while Tom Corcoran and Joe Moen had two hits each.
