Amateur baseball: Royals fall in tournament opener

AUSTIN — The Rochester Royals dropped their opener in the Spam Town Tournament in Austin with a 4-1 setback to Westmont in amateur baseball on Friday.

AUSTIN — The Rochester Royals dropped their opener in the Spam Town Tournament in Austin on Friday with a 4-1 setback to Westmont in amateur baseball.

Westmont scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to win the seven-inning affair. The Royals scored their lone run in the bottom of the third to briefly tie the game at 1-1.

The Royals were held to three hits in the contest. They scored in the third on Jordan Martini's RBI double to plate Tim Oesterlin, who had also doubled.

Jordan Jasik hit a single for the Royals' only other hit.

Brad Pfeffer started and took the loss for the Royals. Pfeffer allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked one. Ben O'Reilly pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

The Royals continue play in the tournament today in Austin.
