Amateur baseball: Run in the ninth sinks Royals

The Minneapolis Patriots scored a run in the ninth inning to break a tie en route to a 4-3 victory over the Rochester Royals in amateur baseball on Friday night.

The Minneapolis Patriots scored a run in the ninth inning to break a tie en route to a 4-3 victory over the Rochester Royals in amateur baseball on Friday night.

The scored was tied at 3-3 when the Patriots pushed across a run at Mayo Field to pin the loss on Brian Ness, who allowed just the one run in 4 1/3 innings of relief work.

The Patriots outhit the Royals 11-6 in the contest. The Royals scored single runs in the first, second and sixth innings.

Dave Adams and Matt Stubbs both had RBI singles for the Royals. Jordan Martini went 1-for-2 and scored a pair of runs. Ness, Jordan Stokes and Dave Rojo also had hits for the Royals and Strokes scored a run.

Tim Oesterlin started on the mound for Rochester and he allowed three earned runs on 11 hits over 4 2/3 innings.
