Area games put on hold
Weather once again wreaked havoc with the sports schedules for Austin area teams on Tuesday night.
Austin High wrestling and boys swimming had meets called off on the road. The Lyle/Pacelli girls basketball team also had a home game against Schaeffer Academy postponed.
The Southland boys and girls had games against Lewiston-Altura cancelled for the evening. Lyle/Pacelli boys basketball has so far had a futile week with games called off on both Monday and Tuesday nights.
The Austin Packers were supposed to wrestle in a triangular meet at Mankato West on Tuesday night along with New Ulm. Austin will now wrestle Mankato West in the Big Nine Conference dual meet at 7 p.m. Monday night.
A dual meet in the pool between the Austin and Albert Lea boys swimming and diving teams was postponed on Tuesday. No make-up date has yet been set for this conference dual.
Austin was originally scheduled to finish the regular season on Thursday night with a home meet against Mankato West at the Ellis pool. With the delay of Tuesday's road dual, the meet on Thursday will then be the final home meet of the season.
For the L/P Athletics boys team it has been a tough week with a pair of Southeast Conference games on hold. There has been no make-up date set for Monday's postponed game against LeRoy-Ostrander.
Earlier last month, the game between the L/P and Grand Meadow boys had to be called off. That was the scenario again Tuesday night and now, another date will have to be chosen to reschedule the conference game.
Things have gone fairly smoothly on the schedule throughout most of this winter for the L/P girls basketball team. But even the girls good luck ran out Tuesday night and the SEC game versus Schaeffer Academy of Rochester had to be postponed. No make-up date has yet been set.
The Southland boys basketball team was supposed to begin the new month on the road, but that didn't happen. Instead, the Three Rivers Conference game against Lewiston-Altura was postponed. The next game for the Rebels is Thursday night at home versus Hayfield.
After a win on the road last Friday night, the Southland girls were looking forward to a home game against L-A. Since that didn't take place Tuesday night, the Rebels girls basketball team will be out on the road Thursday and Friday for conference games.
Fans who were denied a chance to see their favorite basketball team Tuesday night can go to the Riverland Gym for a pair of home games tonight at the Austin campus.
The Riverland men and women's teams play host to Minnesota West in a basketball doubleheader. This is the start of the second half of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference, South Division schedule.
