Area golfers hit holes-in-one

A pair of hole-in-ones were recorded at area golf courses over the past weekend.

Charles Brandt of Austin aced the 144-yard, 14th hole at River Oaks on Friday. He used a 5-iron to find the cup from the tee at the course north of Austin. Witnesses were Bill Nelson, Paul Reul and Butch Lerum.

Mark Langan of Austin fired a hole in one at the Cedar River Country Club in Adams during an International Paper Outing on Saturday.

Langan made his hole in one on the par 3, No. 3 hole using a sand wedge. This was his second hole-in-one. Jeff Johnson, Joe Webber, and John Pike all of Austin witnessed the ace.

• Congratulations go out to the Senior and Super Senior golfers, who took part in the CRCC Senior Tournament Championship last Friday.

Norm Klapperich from Meyer, Iowa, won low net in the Senior Division with a score of 67. Roger Gordon of Adams fired an 18-hole round of 78 to win the division. Joe Schammel, Rose Creek, scored an 88 to win the Super Senior Championship. Dan Wagemann of Stacyville, Iowa won the Super Senior low net championship with a net 71.

Jeff Thalberg, a Cedar River Golf Course member from Eden Prairie, scored a two-over par round of 110 for 27 holes to win the annual club championship. Finishing runner up was Ken Kling of LeRoy and third place went to Mike King, also of LeRoy.

Cathy Sumner of Adams won the Women’s Club Championship. Brooke Sloan was the winner of the blind bogey non-handicap division. Marcus Johnson of Adams was the Junior—Ages 14 and over Champion with Brandon Bergene placing second.

Tyler Sloan won the Junior 13-and-under division. Trevor Sloan and Sam Wagemann tied for second place. Megan Harvey of Rose Creek won the Junior Girls Championship Division. Allie Sloan of Grand Meadow was the 13-and-under Junior Girl Champion.

Other flight winners included: First Flight; Jack Klaehn, Dexter, won first place by beating Bruce Bergene of Elkton in a playoff. Second Flight: Gary Landherr of Rose Creek won the second flight and Dan Smith of Austin placed second. Gary Sloan of Grand Meadow was the third flight winner and Mike Stark of Rose Creek placed second.

Brian Larson and Roger Gordon, both of Adams; Pete Kuhlman, Rose Creek; and Tim Schneider, Adams, were the closest to the pin winners. Nate Applen of Adams won the long drive contest.

• The fourth annual Rebel Nation Golf Outing has been postponed to Saturday, Sept. 10. A shotgun start at 1 p.m. is planned for the event.
