Austin boys drop fourth straight game

The Austin High boys hockey team played a non-conference game against Le Sueur-Henderson/St. Peter on Saturday afternoon at Riverside Arena.

Although they had 21 shots-on-goal for the day, the Austin Packers failed to find the net. This put too much pressure on the defense and they gave up two goals in each of the final two periods for a 4-0 loss.

Penalties by the Packers opened the door to half of the goals by the L-H/STP Bulldogs. After a scoreless first period, the visitors got the scoring started with a power play goal early in the second period.

Committing a pair of penalties in the first period didn't hurt the Packers, but their third trip to the box had repercussions. The Bulldogs scored in the opening three minutes of the second period and led the rest of the way.

Rainer Londino-Green was under constant pressure and had 30 saves in the loss. The Bulldogs posted double-digit shot totals in all three periods.

Leading by a 2-0 score after the second period, the Bulldogs padded the margin early in the third period. Jack Swanberg scored a pair of goals in the period for the visitors, including a late power tally to finish the scoring on the day.

Austin (3-10 overall) returns to Big Nine Conference play on Thursday night with a road game against Winona at the Bud King Ice Arena.
