Austin boys get fourth seed in section

Austin High will be the fourth seed in the upcoming Class AAA, Section One boys basketball tournament.

The defending Section 1AAA champs from Winona are the top seed. The Winhawks come into the tournament riding a 14-game winning streak. Waseca, seeded eighth, travels to Winona for the first round Wednesday night.

On the other side of the bracket, fifth-seeded Faribault plays at fourth-seeded Austin with a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Packer Gym. The Packers swept the Falcons in their two meetings during the regular season.

Despite the losses to Austin and an overall losing record, the Faribault boys did beat Mankato West in overtime on the second-to-last night of the regular season.

In the lower half of the section bracket, sixth-seeded Simley plays at Red Wing and seventh-seeded Albert Lea is at second-seeded New Prague on Wednesday night.
