Registration for the Austin Youth Football program began Monday and will run through Aug. 18 for the upcoming season.
This is the 39th year of the Austin Youth Football League with every fifth and sixth-grader eligible to play. Forms for registration are available at the Austin Parks and Recreation office and the South Central Athlete store in downtown Austin.
The registration fee is $30 per family and must accompany the registration form by Aug. 18. No interested youth will be refused participation because of a financial hardship.
"We continue to strive for the highest standards of safety and fun for your child," stated a press release from the AYF Directors and Coaches. "There is an added element of excitement in watching or playing football on a Saturday in the fall. Since each youth will start in every game, we encourage parent attendance, it's good for the players and good for the parents."
After the registration is completed, there will be an equipment distribution on Aug. 20 at Packer Arena. The following Monday, Aug. 27, will be the last day to complete rosters and the first day of wearing the full equipment.

The first scrimmage of the season will take place on Saturday, Sept. 8., at Wescott Field. Games will then be played on the ensuing Saturdays over the next six weeks.
