A four-run second-inning gave Mankato East a big lead, and Rochester Mayo never was able to rally, giving the Cougars a 7-5 Big Nine Conference baseball win Tuesday night.
Mayo out-hit East 9-5, but the Cougars got the timely hits and took advantage of a whopping nine Mayo errors.
"Yes, we made nine errors, and there is no excuse for that," Mayo coach Tom Senne said. "You will never win a game making nine errors. Sad thing is, we had a chance to win the game. We had the go-ahead run at the plate to end the game."
The Spartans also left 10 runners on base. "We just weren't a solid team today," Senne said.
Michael Stubbs took the pitching loss. He went two innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits.

Mayo dropped to 5-4 overall. The Spartans return to action Thursday at home against Owatonna.
