PINE ISLAND — Rochester Lourdes gave a hint of its potential this high school baseball season with an opening 5-0 road win over Pine Island on Thursday.

Lourdes junior right-hander Nick Hanson pitched a shutout through 6 1/3 innings and allowed just three hits, with six strikeouts and one walk.

Hanson got all the run support he'd need when Lourdes scored a run in the top of the first.

Pine Island got a solid pitching performance as well, as starter Luke Schmidt and Alex Kautz combined to allow just four hits, with four strikeouts.

No player had two hits for either team; Daniel Burriss stolen three bases and scored once for the Eagles.
