NORTHFIELD -- Sloppy play in the field proved to be costly for the Rochester Royals during an 8-2 loss to the Northfield Knights in amateur baseball on Wednesday night.
Northfield was held to five hits, but the visiting Royals committed five errors in the field.
Losing pitcher Mike Stubbs went the first six innings for the Royals. He allowed eight runs, just four earned, on five hits and four walks.
Tim Maus hit a two-run homer for Northfield.
Mac Horvath and Mitch Brown both pitched one scoreless inning for the Royals. Horvath struck out the side in his inning while Brown had two strikeouts.
Horvath was also 2-for-4 at the plate. Sam Warren was 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Royals while Nick Pearson also drove in a run. Drew Block and Jared Campbell scored the runs for Rochester while Alex Holets went 2-for-4.
The loss drops the Royals to 6-6 overall and 2-5 in Section 1B play. The Royals, who have lost three straight, will host the Miesville Mudhens at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mayo Field.
